Traffic timing along the corridor
South Lamar backs up badly during the evening commute, so a truck trying to leave a loading zone at five in the afternoon can lose an hour just sitting in traffic. We schedule loading and departures around the corridor's worst hours where the move allows it.
Morning moves tend to go faster here simply because the road clears out by mid-morning on weekdays.
Newer apartment towers
The newer buildings along South Lamar generally require a reserved freight elevator and a certificate of insurance, much like downtown towers. We confirm the building's specific rules before the day so nobody is standing in the lobby waiting on paperwork.
Underground parking garages in some of these buildings have height limits, which decides whether our truck can pull in or has to stage on the street.
Older duplexes and small multi-family homes
Behind the retail strip, South Lamar still has a stretch of older duplexes with shared driveways and narrow side yards. These moves are usually quicker and lower cost, but the tight access means we bring smaller dollies and take furniture through in a specific order to avoid a jam in the doorway.
Shared driveways also mean coordinating with a neighbor's parked car, which we handle by asking you to give a heads up before the truck arrives.
Moving day around a busy strip
The retail and restaurant strip along South Lamar draws crowds well into the evening most days of the week, which narrows the practical loading window for anyone trying to move out of a building near the main road. We generally recommend a start before ten in the morning to stay ahead of both the traffic and the foot volume.
Delivery trucks for the businesses along the corridor also compete for the same curb space, so an early arrival gives us the best shot at a clean, close parking spot.
Moving between South Lamar and the lake
A fair number of our South Lamar jobs are short hops toward the lake side of the neighborhood rather than long crosstown moves, and those tend to be quick once the truck is loaded since the drive itself is only a few minutes. The bigger factor is usually the building on one end or the other, not the distance between them.
For moves in either direction we still walk both addresses ahead of time, since a smooth loading side does not always mean a smooth unloading side.
